Papers of Alfred F. Smiley and the company E.A. & G.H. Smiley of Minnewaska, Ulster County, New York, including bills, receipts and business correspondence pertaining to the operation of several businesses including the Minnewaska Garage and the Power House in Kerhankson, N.Y., as well as hotels Wildmere House, Cliff House and Lake Minnewaska Mountain House. Much of the correspondence pertains to orders for oil, gasoline, tires, pumps, pipes and electrical equipment, including extensive correspondence with Harry T. Crissy of Albany, N.Y., a distributor of electrical equipment and a personal friend of Alfred F. Smiley. There are also letters from publishers of hotel guide books, correspondence with employees of job applicants about work as teamsters, truck drivers or bell boys; and correspondence about livery stables, auto licenses, insurance, and purchases of hay and straw.
